Tesco gets alcohol sales ban

TESCO has been banned from selling alcohol for a month at one of its stores in the county.

Worthing Borough Council's Licensing Committee has suspended the supermarket's licence to sell alcohol for a 28 day period at the Broadwater Road store in Worthing (pictured below). It has also imposed more stringent licence conditions to help prevent the sale of alcohol to under-age children.

The move was made on January 19 and followed Adur District Council licensing committee's suspension, the previous day, of Somerfield's licence, to sell alcohol for three days at the Ham Road Store in Shoreham, as well as additional conditions. In October last year, Sussex police took part in an intelligence-led Home Office co-ordinated campaign to identify licensed premises which regularly sold alcohol to children under the age of 18.
