Tesco tanker caught in act using rat run

DURRINGTON Hill safety campaigners have stepped up their campaign to stop the narrow, rural lane being used as a rat run by heavy lorries and speeding cars.

Only three days after they agreed to take action, Myra Townsend of Avon Cottage was astonished to see yet another Tesco petrol tanker driving down the hill outside her home.

The tanker is one of many to regularly flout the law by using Durrington Hill despite clear signs at both ends of the lane showing that access is only for vehicles of 7.5 tonnes or less.

She took photographs that illustrate the dangers of heavy vehicles using the road, which is only 14ft 3ins wide.

The tanker virtually filled the road, leaving it impossible for cars to get through.
