Thailand murder victim's wife speaks of ordeal

THE distraught wife of a businessman murdered by pirates off the coast of Thailand has been reunited with her children.

Linda Robertson, 57, and her 64-year-old husband Malcolm were sailing in their luxury yacht when three raiders boarded on Monday.

Mrs Robertson said she was tied up naked like a "trussed chicken" for nine hours as the attackers killed her husband and threw his body overboard.

During the ordeal, she was dragged into the ship's cockpit to help the three men sail the 44ft vessel, only to find it drenched in blood.

Mrs Robertson finally escaped when they attempted to flee in a dinghy but suffered engine problems, and she sailed away in the yacht to flag down help.

The body of Mr Robertson, who owned 1066 Bakery and started the Mr Bean chain of coffee shops, is still missing.

The couple had set off on a round-the-world adventure in their yacht named Mr Bean 10 years ago but returned home to St Leonards in the summer, and were due to move into a new home in Cooden on their return to England next month.

Both have two children from previous relationships, all four of whom '“ Darren, 37, Ben, 34, Tara, 39, and Dean, 34 '“ were re-united with Mrs Robertson in Saturn province, Thailand, yesterday after she was released from hospital.

Linda's brother John Clee, who lives in Battle, said: "She told me she knew Malcolm was dead when they dragged her into the cockpit of the boat and it was covered in blood.

"Of course, they don't know for sure that Malcolm is dead, but it becomes more and more likely as time goes on '“ until they find his body."
