Thank You

A TEACHER from Lancing College has recorded a CD to raise funds for the hospital that saved his life.

In July, 2000, Graham Davies was a patient at London's Charing Cross Hospital after suffering a brain haemorrhage.

He told the Herald he had recorded his CD, entitled Celta, to raise money for the Friends of Charing Cross.

Graham said: "I underwent brain surgery to repair a ruptured aneurysm and was fortunate enough to survive the ordeal and make an extremely good recovery.

"It is, therefore, my aim to help the hospital in any way I can."

Celta is a collection of instrumental music drawing on various Celtic, Hispanic, traditional, folk and classical influences. Half of the tracks are originals written by Graham and the remainder are his interpretations of traditional Celtic and Spanish songs.

Graham was born in Wales and, as Lancing College's head of Spanish, he is a regular visitor to the part of Spain where this type of music is played.

"It's not the usual image people have of Spain, which is what you call Canaries and castanets.

"The people in the north-west of Spain think of themselves as having more in common with the Scottish and the Welsh than with their fellow countrymen," he added.

Lancing College students Emily Doyle and Tim Wilson helped with the design of the booklet and the CD label. The CD, which is dedicated to his wife, Julie, is on sale, priced 8, at the Steyning Bookshop, the Norfolk Arms, Church Street, Steyning, and from Graham at Lancing College.
