Thanksgiving service for first Grange Centre manager in Midhurst

A Service of Thanksgiving is to be held on October 24 at 2.30 pm at St. Mary's Church Easebourne to celebrate the life of Susan Stocks who died on July 27 aged 81.

She was the first manager of the Grange Leisure Centre and a well known teacher at Midhurst Intermediate and Grammar Schools, St. Cuthman’s Special School and Chichester Tutorial Unit in North Mundham.

In recent years she enjoyed spending time as a Classroom Assistant at Easebourne Primary School

Sue was born in Brighton but the family moved to Kendal during the war years where she attended Kendal High School for Girls. She trained as a domestic science teacher at Ilkley College of Housecraft. She held posts in various schools in Oxford , Kent and London before becoming Home Economics Co-Ordinator at Midhurst Intermediate School when it opened in 1970.

In 1979 Sue left to become Midhurst and District Association Manager in the inaugural year of The Grange Centre , a name suggested by her , liaising with (the late) Martin Auckland Manager for West Sussex Social Services on dual use of building and facilities. She initiated membership, clubs , associations and finance and the centre opened successfully in 1980 .

People attending the service may choose to wear bright clothes . Afternoon tea will be served in the Refectory after the service. All who remembered Sue are welcome.
