THE MEN WHO DIED

The two fire service workers who died in Sunday's explosion at a fireworks factory have been named.

They were Brian Wembridge, 63, and Geoff Wicker, 49.

Mr Wembridge was a support worker. He was a retired firefighter who had been employed in another role, which including taking photographs at fire scenes.

Mr Wicker, from Heathfield, was a retained firefighter. His full-time job is believed to have been in the fire and rescue service's control room.

Flowers have been placed outside the fire station at Heathfield, which stands at the end of the main street.

He and the other man who died seem to have been caught in a second explosion at the Festival Fireworks factory.

By yesterday (Monday) afternoon, the only casualty remaining at hospital was a 39-year-old man from Uckfield.

He was a passer-by at the time of the blast. He suffered chest injuries and has had facial surgery at the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton. His son, aged 23, suffered minor cuts.

A police sergeant has had surgery on his leg was leaving hospital in Eastbourne yesterday.
