The Olympics legacy meant fun and games at nursing home

RESIDENTS at a Yapton nursing home ensured the Olympics came to the village.

The men and women at Yew Tree Nursing Home were so enthused by the sight of the athletes from the Games on TV they wanted to hold their own sporting celebration.

The home’s activity staff divided them into three teams and held the events over three weeks.

Janette Li-Kam-Tin, manager at the home, said: “These events included skittles, volleyball,
ring toss, bowls, tennis, basketball shots, javelin and a space hopper race where the residents nominated a member of staff to race for them.”

The staff also got involved in some of the other events, with a lot of fun and laughter.

A medal ceremony followed the activities where the winning team was presented with a cup by the owners of the North End Road home. All the residents also received a medal.

The afternoon ended with a barbecue for everyone.
