THE SHAPE OF THINGS TO COME?

IS this bold, modern five-storey block (pictured) Lewes' future?

It would split in two to provide a walkway to link the proposed Phoenix Quarter development in the former Phoenix Industrial Estate with the river.

The blocks, on one side clad in steel and the other in slate, would contain shops on the ground floor and first floors. Offices above would be occupied by some 300 staff. Eighteen flats at the rear would face a riverside square.

The 200 million scheme would also include:

* 775 homes

* 30 shops

* Riverfront restaurant

* 415-space multi-storey car park

* 100-space long stay car park

* Cinema

* Malling Brooks development

* New fire station

* 1,000 jobs

* Landscaped riverfront walk

* Slipway and boat store

* Solar panels and wind turbines
