The show went on for Slindon pupils

The stage was set for the seven to 11-year-olds at the village primary school to perform Dick Whittington when the lights failed an hour before the show.

Headteacher Jane Walters said: “We feared the production would have to be deferred but, fortunately, the power was re-instated and the production went ahead.”

The audience were glad it did. They commented upon the high quality of the acting and singing.

Several parents said they didn’t recognise their children who were resplendent in costumes and wigs.

The pupils, for their part, enjoyed the show so much they wanted to do it again.

Ms Walters said she was pleased the panto was able to go ahead. Last year’s show had to be postponed until the following term because so many children were off sick with a flu-type virus.

The school’s younger pupils, aged from four to six, enjoyed their time in the spotlight with a version of the nativity called The Sleepy Shepherd.

All those in the audience - family, friends and members of the community - were impressed by the quality of the acting and singing.
