There was no ‘SPACE’ for boredom this summer in Littlehampton

Although it wasn’t the final frontier the youngsters were visiting, but the annual Sport and Arts Community Event in Littlehampton.

A whopping 34 sessions were offered for those aged between eight and 17 through the programme, which was again organised by the Littlehampton Town Council, in this SPACE’s tenth year.

An impressive array of indoor and outdoor activities was provided, ranging from squash, croquet and art, to street dancing and drumming.

Councillor Malcolm Belchamber, chairman of the community resources committee, said he was pleased at how well the week had been attended. He said SPACE gave children a chance to try sports they don’t normally have access to.

“SPACE really does encourage participants to join one of the many excellent clubs Littlehampton has to offer, which is a fantastic achievement for the council,” he added.

A total of 700 places were available, with youngsters enjoying up to five free sessions every day. Popular activities included drumming, graffiti and painting with light workshops

Sporting events were largely provided through local clubs, including Littlehampton Cricket Club, Littlehampton Croquet Club and Sussex Tornados. Sporting stars from the Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club also joined in the fun.
