Thieves hot-foot with mobile cinema equipment

A mobile cinema's visit to Bexhill was marred after opportunist thieves stole hundreds of pounds worth of equipment.

Andrew Sage, from Like Cinema, said the items worth 700 were taken when organisers from the company were at Manor Barn on Tuesday March 9 at around 10pm.

They had visited the town after announcing last month that a new mobile cinema service would come to Bexhill every Tuesday evening.

As a result of the theft Like Cinema had to cancel its following week's screening.

Mr Sage said: "We were packing everything up in the van and within five minutes someone had come along and stolen all of the equipment."

Police said two computers and an LCD screen were stolen.

A spokesman for Sussex Police said officers attended the scene following the theft but were unable to find the culprits.

As yet no arrests have been made.

Sue Spice, spokesman from Bexhill Chamber of Commerce, said: "How dreadful and embarrassing. A lot of trouble has gone into bringing a cinema to Bexhill and this happens. It was really popular as we have had many phone calls about it.

"For this to happpen is so embarrassing for the town."

If anyone has any information they should contact Sergeant Jane Batchelor at Sussex Police on 0845 60 70 999 quoting serial 1736 of March 9.
