Thieves siphon 200 litres of fuel

BEXHILL police are investigating the theft of more than 200 litres of diesel fuel, siphoned from vehicles parked in the East Sussex Highways Depot in Elva Way, Sidley, Bexhill, and a dumper truck belonging to Bexhill Cemetery in Turkey Road.

Two lorries were tampered with between 5pm on Friday, June 17 and 6am on Monday, June 20 and a third was targeted between 5.30pm on Tuesday, June 21 and 6am the next day.

The theft of fuel from a dumper truck at the cemetery is being linked with the site office being broken into between 4.30pm on Tuesday, June 21 and 6.30am on Wednesday, June 22.

With diesel now costing around £1.40 per litre, fleet operators and vehicle owners are being warned to tighten security and to be on the alert for thieves.
