Thieves steal parrots

TWO parrots were stolen from Raystede animal centre.

The African grey parrots were taken last night (Sunday) after intruders cut a large hole in the aviary.

Staff at the centre, near Ringmer, are very concerned for the welfare of the two birds as they are quite nervous and part of a long-standing colony.

Nigel Mason, general manager at Raystede, said: 'Both of the stolen birds were close companions with different birds and will be feeling disorientated, frightened and may well suffer physically as a result.

'Not only were the birds stolen but a gaping hole was left which could have meant the other parrots in the aviary escaping and in the cold weather would quickly deteriorate and die.

'We would ask anyone who might know something about this to contact us or the police with any information.

'It is vital the birds are found as they have special requirements and will suffer without proper care.'
