Thieves targetRye allotments

A yellow petrol strimmer was stolen from one allotment shed on Sunday April 20 at South Undercliff Allotments and an unsuccessful attempt was also made to get into a second locked shed on the same premises.

Additionally in Harbour Road, Rye, another allotment shed was broken into and garden tools stolen sometime between 6pm on Saturday (April 19) and 11am on Monday (April 21).

Power told were also stolen from a shed at Dixter Road in Northiam on April 15.

Public Engagement Officer James Philips said: “We advise members of the public to keep their sheds locked and secure with a good quality padlock and where possible to additionally lock the contents to secure fixed points.

“It is also a good idea to mark your property with recognisable markings using a permanent marker pen or paint - and to also take note of the serial numbers of your belongings.

“You can further protect your property by registering it on the Immobilise property crime website.

“Any items recovered by police or handed in as found property will be checked on the website.

“Registering your items vastly improves your chances of it being returned to you.”
