Thinking of others during festive fun

Bands and carol singers will be dotted around the town centre, including High Street and Brunswick Road, and there will be children’s rides and sideshows between 4pm and 9pm.

In East Street, there will be a Christmas market and on Coronation Green, emergency services teams will have stands offering advice.

The town is also supporting the St Barnabas House hospice wear a Santa hat day.

n Each Christmas, Amnesty International encourages people to send greetings cards to prisoners of conscience around the world and the Shoreham and Worthing Amnesty Group will be at Shoreham late-night shopping with information on how to help.

Group secretary Peter Bedwell said: “We tend to take human rights for granted here but in much of the world, speaking your mind is a hazardous occupation and can land you in jail.

“Letters of solidarity can make a real difference to people imprisoned, or in danger, for exercising their human rights.

“It reminds them they are not alone, and by showing the authorities that the world knows what’s going on, it can help to secure a prisoner’s release, stop the harassment or change an unjust law.”
