Third women only race for life

THE TESCO team are ready to don their running shoes for the women-only charity event of the year.

Cancer Research UK's Race for Life, supported by Tesco, is returning to Hastings for the third year on June 19.

And organisers are hoping participants in the 5km event will improve on last year's amazing 79,256.

Race organiser Rachel Wicks said: "I am absolutely delighted with the fundraising success of Hastings Race for Life - every single penny will go directly towards preventing, treating and curing cancer.

"I am also thrilled Tesco will be supporting the event for the next three years. Tesco has really embraced Race for Life and in doing so has played a key role in making the event the enormous success it is today. There is always a sea of pink Tesco t-shirts at the Hastings Race for Life event, which is testament to the tremendous support we receive. I look forward to continuing working together to raise vital funds for Cancer Research UK's world-class research."

Nationally, 409,000 women took part in Race for Life last year, raising 21 million. This year it is hoped the 162 races will raise 23 million.

Catherine Stewart, corporate social responsibility manager for Tesco, said: "Race for Life is hugely popular among our customers and staff alike as it appeals to all women, whatever their age and however fit they are. Over the past three years an amazing 47,750 Tesco employees have taken part in Race for Life, raising over 2.3 million for Cancer Research UK."
