This cafe rocks!

A BEXHILL cafe has been voted the best in Sussex by listeners to a local radio station.

The Picnic Basket in Sackville Road beat off all the opposition in the cafe/restaurant category to win the title best in Sussex for 2004.

Loyal customers texted their votes into the radio station to put the local cafe ahead of other top three contenders Diplocks in Hailsham and the Feedwell Cafe in Hove.

As well as winning a framed certificate, joint owners Rachel Hayes and Mandy McDevitt won two tickets to a gala dinner at Brighton's Grand Hotel. They enjoyed a champagne reception and were among the guests entertained by singers Lemar and Lucy Silvers.

Rachel believes they are popular because they offer good food, all reasonably priced and customers "like our cheek".
