Police have issued a statement confirming why officers were at the top of East Hill in Hastings yesterday.

Police went to the top of East Hill in Hastings at 7pm on Saturday (September 5) due to concern for the welfare of a man standing there, a spokesman said.

He added: “Officers have made contact with the man to help ensure his eventual return to a safe location away from the cliff.

“The top and bottom of the cliff were cordoned off and there is no danger to any other members of the public.”

In an update this morning police confirmed the man has moved away from the cliff edge and there is no further police action.
