Thousands stolen in Amberley Museum robbery

TWO robbers attacked an Amberley Museum worker and forced him to open the restaurant safe before fleeing with thousands of pounds last night (Sunday, October 9).

The raiders ran away on foot and police hope people driving along the B2138 through Amberley and Houghton at the time, just after 9.30pm, will have useful information.

As the robbers ran off towards Houghton to get into a waiting white car, they dropped a small quantity of cash from the raid, which was later recovered by police.

The museum employee, a 43-year old man, suffered some bruising but did not need hospital treatment. No weapons were involved.

Both robbers are described as wearing dark clothing, one being about 5ft 10inch and of “chunky” build. Both were carrying dark carrier bags or bags of a similar type.

Anyone who saw the men running away or getting into a car is asked to contact the police, telephone 0845 60 70 999.
