Threat to carnival

UCKFIELD Bonfire Society is holding an emergency meeting next week because a lack of volunteers is threatening the town s carnival next year.

UCKFIELD Bonfire Society is holding an emergency meeting next week because a lack of volunteers is threatening the town s carnival next year.

Secretary Carol Watts has written to businesses and individuals in the town to ask them to attend the meeting, at Uckfield Civic Centre, next Tuesday.

She said: The society is finding it harder and harder to keep the carnival going with so very few members. We have decided to hold a meeting and invite organisations and the general public to attend, so we can ask for the help we need to keep Uckfield s greatest tradition alive.

If people only help with the making of the torches or just promise to help out on the day, it would make the world of difference.
