Three fire engines at the scene of M23 blaze

Three fire engines rushed to the M23 earlier this afternoon after a car caught fire near Pease Pottage.

Part of the northbound carriageway was closed while emergency crews dealt with the blaze.

Firefighters said that a hedgerow on the M23 also caught alight.

A spokesperson for West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service said: "At 1.10pm we responded to a car fire on the M23 between junctions 10 and 11.

"Three fire engines from Crawley and East Grinstead were sent to the scene.

"Upon arrival crews used three hose reels to extinguish the fire and crews stood down at 1.45pm."
