Three Pier Challenge kick starts bank’s charity campaign

BANK managers from across Sussex have taken to the streets to kick start a year-long fundraising campaign.

Lloyds Bank branches in West Sussex and East Sussex have chosen to support children’s charity Dreams Come True as their chosen charity.

The Three Pier Challenge, supporting the charity’s Christmas appeal, was their first event and more challenges are planned for 2016.

Director Louise Greatwood said: “Through our Helping Britain Prosper Plan, we have committed to be the banking group that brings communities closer together to help them thrive, so we are delighted to be in a position to help children’s charity Dreams Come True fulfil the dreams of those with life-limiting conditions.”

The charity’s Christmas appeal aims to raise £50,000 to help make 25 dreams come true for children and young people.

The Three Piers Challenge, involving 24 bank managers and team members from the region, took place in terrible weather conditions last Tuesday. The group walked from Bognor Pier to Brighton Pier, via Worthing Pier, while dressed as Santa Claus.

Trevor Tingley, bank manager at Lloyds in South Street, Worthing, said: “We completed the event in fair to say horrid conditions when we got towards the finish in Brighton.

“We completed the 30-mile course, attending a few branches en route between 7.45am and 7pm.

“We all congregated at Bognor and Worthing piers, however, due to the driving, rain the team completed the course a little fragmented and due to the conditions, a final team photo was not possible.”

A total of £13,000 was raised by the Lloyds Bank team.

Nick Adams, head of corporate fundraising at Dreams Come True, said: “Without the support of Lloyds Bank, we wouldn’t be able to put a smile on so many children’s faces as well as their families.

“All of the money raised allows us to give children and young people a once-in-a-lifetime experience, which creates treasured memories for them and their loved ones for life.

“We would like to thank all of the employees at Lloyds Bank for their support.”
