Three sentenced for drugs offences

Lewes Crown Court heard that police were called after James Willis was caught smoking a cannabis joint in the bar at the holiday camp during the weekend Bang Face music festival in May last year.

Willis, 27, of Queensbury Mews, Brighton, was found to have in his possession other wraps of drugs and he was arrested.

On searching the chalet he had rented for the weekend the other defendants Jamie Major and Katie Marriott, both aged 24, were found with amounts of cash and various classes of drugs on them. All were taken to Hastings custody where they were interviewed and admitted possession of the drugs, however they denied supplying, stating it was for their own personal use.

A search warrant of a flat Major and Marriott shared in Trafalgar Place, Brighton, at the time found the drug ketamine and signs drugs had been prepared and bagged in the premises.

From telephone records all three were linked and jointly charged.

Willis, pleaded not guilty to three charges of conspiring to supply drugs and possession of cannabis and these were ordered to lie on file. He admitted possession with intent to supply a class A drug and possession with intent to supply a class C drug ketamine.

He was given a six month prison sentence suspended for 24 months, ordered to pay £400 towards the court costs and told to carry out 300 hours unpaid work. He has also been electronically tagged for six months with a curfew between 8pm and 6am.

Marriott, of Lower Richmond Road, London, pleaded not guilty to three charges of conspiracy to supply drugs and these were left to lie on file. She pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply the class A drug MDMA. She was ordered to pay £400 towards court costs and given a community sentence to work 250 hours.

He pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply the class A drug MDMA and possession with intent to supply the class C drug ketamine. He was given a total of 300 hours community service and ordered to pay £400 towards the court costs.
