The Co-operative has taken steps to recall its Truly Irresistible Camembert as a precautionary measure as have Asda with its Extra Special Camembert de Pays.

Listeria monocytogenes can cause illness, with pregnant women, young children, those with weakened immune systems and anyone over 60 years old particularly at risk.

The Co-operative Truly Irresistible Camembert 250g batch with a ‘use by’ date of 21 February 2016 is the only Co-operative product known to be affected at this time.

Co-op spokesperson said: “Product safety is our absolute priority and as a precaution we have recalled the product following routine testing. Notices have been placed in all stockist stores and we have alerted the FSA.

“We would advise customers not to consume this product and return it to store for a full refund.”

Asda Extra Special Camembert de Pays 250g with use by dates 14, 21 and 28 February 2016 have also been recalled.
