Thrilling show draws record crowds

Organisers of Shoreham Airshow couldn't have hoped for better weather for the country's biggest charity airshow last weekend.

Record crowds, including plane enthusiasts, families and those just eager for a good time flocked to the 1930s airfield eager to catch the action. As people relaxed with their picnics they witnessed a spectacular display of the some of the world's best flying machines such as the massive Sally B and the ungainly looking Chinook helicopter.

This year's event also marked the 60th anniversary of the end of the Second World War and a magnificent Spitfire paid homage to those who gave their lives with a special Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.

As well as older planes such as the Hurricane and Mustang, there were impressive displays from more modern planes the Tucano and the Royal Navy's Sea Hawk and Sea Fury.

One of the highlights was the Typhoon (Eurofighter) visiting the show for the first time and amazing spectators with its power and deafening volume.
