Nothing was stolen but the burglars seriously damaged the lounge and kitchen.

They smashed Mr Batey s fish tank, leaving his much-loved collection of fresh water fish dying on his carpet.

Mr Batey, 30, had discovered the break-in after a night out in Worthing. He said: I had dead-bolted the door when I left, so I was initially very shocked to see it open when I came home.

I walked in, turned the light on, saw the front room was smashed up and my jaw just dropped to the ground."
