Thursday morning - Derek Norcross funeral

THE funeral takes place this morning, 11am, of Mr Hastings Derek Norcross.The retired St Paul's C of E School headmaster, 76, was walking his six-year-old grandson home from school when he was struck down 50 yards from his daughter's home in Robertsbridge.He died of his injuries in hospital.

Mr Norcross' funeral will be held at the Hastings Centre on The Ridge at 11am on Thursday (November 23).

Parking is limited, so mourners are advised to arrive in good time.

The service will be followed by a family cremation, and a public reception will be held at the Beauport Park Hotel at 1pm.

The family has requested family flowers only, but donations can be made to St Michael's Hospice, care of Arthur C Towner Funeral Directors at 2-4 Norman Road, St Leonards.

A statement from the family reads: "The family has been devastated by this terrible tragedy, but the support of family and countless friends has been extraordinary and much appreciated.

"In addition to his well-known charitable and public works, Derek was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather who revelled in his three grandchildren.

"We, his family, are so lucky to have had him."

He is survived by his wife Audrey, his children Kathy and Andrew, his son and daughter-in-law Guy and Jean, and his three grandchildren Ellie, William and Emma.
