TIME has been called on the Shredded Wheat Big Ben clock, which for the past year has been an attraction at the Cooden Beach hotel.

The clock, originally erected at the hotel as part of Bexhill in Bloom's publicity, was one of eight sculptures from around the country promoting the goodness of Shredded Wheat.

Owner of the Cooden Beach hotel, James Kimber, said he felt the clock, which was erected in February 2008 and located in a prime position at the front of the hotel, was past it's sell by date, but he is happy to consider ideas for a replacement.

James said: "It's time the clock was removed as it's passed it's best, but we could be on the lookout for something to replace it. This is an ideal location with views from both of the main roads approaching the hotel."

He added: "Being the main site of the Motoring Heritage Gallery, perhaps someone could come up with an idea to promote this?"

The clock isn't quite at the end of it's time though, as Bexhill in Bloom's Sandra Melvin, along with the help of John Willis from Rother Garden Services has rescued the clock and moved it to her garden at 294, Turkey Road, where it can be viewed when Sandra holds an 'Open Garden' in May.

Sandra said: "Although originally the clock was destined for compost at the end of its life, there is still a lot of life in it!"

The Open Garden event, which supports Bexhill in Bloom, will include one of Sandra's delicious cream tea's, and will be held on Sunday 31st May between 11-4pm.

Tickets are available from the Bexhill Visitor Information Point (situated in the Colonnade Coffee shop on the promenade) or by emailing Sandra at:[email protected]
