Time for Bexhill Forum to move on?

THE time has come when Bexhill Town Forum should be considering updating its role, says chairman Stuart Wood.

The forum meets twice a year with Rother district secretary Trevor Elliott as its secretary.

Mr Wood believes that it is now time for the forum to distance itself from Rother by appointing its own secretary.

He also believes that the way to reduce its lengthy agendas would be to meet four times a year instead of two.

He says: "At its inception six years ago when Margaret Jones was chairman of Rother, she along with Trevor Elliott visited other councils that were operating forums and from this it was passed by the then council of Rother - not without some difficulty and comments over cost and it being a 'talking shop' and an 'unelected group who think they are councillors.'

"Bexhill Town Forum has come a long way since with representatives from over 50 organisations along with officers and councillors from both Rother and the county council.

"We have a very broad cross-section of society from within Bexhill. The forum receives presentations and information on many projects and is well within its budget.

"Maybe it is time to move on..."
