Time to recycle those cards

IT is an age old dilemma that comes once a year - just what do you do with all those old Christmas cards?

This year locals have been flocking to the Ravenside Tesco superstore, in their masses to drop off cards from their nearest and dearest for recycling.

Last week Greg Barker, MP and Councillor Ian Jenkins supported the Christmas recycling scheme by personally delivering their cards into the big green box located just inside the entrance.

Mr Barker said, "Working for the good off the environment is something that's on everybody's mind at the moment, both locally and nationally.

"Any initiative such as this, which makes it easier and more accessible for the public to care about the environment should be applauded."

As Cllr Jenkins recycled his collection of cards he said, "This scheme seems to be a great success. As part of 'Recycle Rother' we hope to encourage everyone to become more aware of our environment for 2007.

"We want to get the message across and one of the ways to do that is through the local schools.

"The younger generation are very aware of the our environment and they can have a positive influence on the adults."
