Toddlers join in a thrilling ‘bear hunt’

About 45 children at the William Older Playgroup went on a ‘bear hunt’ last week, raising more than £350 for Sport Relief.

Their afternoon emulated the popular story by Michael Rosen about a family which set out on an exciting adventure across windswept landscapes, through a deep river and into a cave to find a scary bear.

Manager Sue Droy said: “We wanted to put on an active event for Sport Relief and, as Going on a Bear Hunt is one of their favourite stories, we felt we could recreate the experience for them.”

Children used home-made binoculars to pick up the bear’s trail – big paw prints made from laminated paper which had been scattered across the field.

The hunt ended in one of the playhouses which playgroup staff member Tara Seymour had converted into a makeshift cave, complete with a teddy bear.

Sue added that a ‘great time was had by all’.
