Tom in charity challenge

BEXHILL College student Thomas Harrison (pictured) faced an unimaginable challenge to help St Mary's Tri Club.

This offers sports training to young people, both able and with disability.

Thomas was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy, which means limited use of his legs.

He is able to get around with his walking frame and refuses to let anything hold him back from his love of sport.

He studies sports science at the college and hopes to become a professional athlete one day and enter the Paralympics.

Thomas set up on an indoor rowing machine in the centre of the college refectory to carry out the gruelling 13.1 mile row using only his upper body strength.

Fellow student, Phil Wynn, supported Tom by rowing the full distance with him.

Staff and students also took turns to row alongside.

The task took Tom two hours and four minutes.

Students were touched by his determination and donated generously to the cause, resulting in Tom raising more than £200.
