Tom to perform at De La Warr

Tom Wood, from Broad Oak near Rye, is the lucky local singer selected to perform at the De La Warr Pavilion this Christmas.

Tom, 13, will be singing Walking In The Air, accompanied by the Orchestra of St John's , who will be playing the soundtrack to the classic Christmas film The Snowman. The film will be shown in the second half of the Family Christmas Concert at the Pavilion on Sunday 21st December.

Tom has been performing on stage since he was 9 years old. He has sung with local choirs including Claremont School, Stagecoach South East Regional Choir and Theatre Workshop of Bexhill, and been involved in a variety of operas and musical shows at the White Rock, the Congress in Eastbourne and the Pavilion in Worthing, as well as participating in the Hastings Musical Festival. Last summer he played Peter in the BATS production of The Railway Children at the De La Warr Pavilion. Tom is now a pupil at Cranbrook School and attends singing lessons in Bexhill with Emma Burnett of Mad Fish Singing Studio.

Tom seized the opportunity to send in a CD of his singing to the Orchestra when he saw an article in the Observer asking for a local boy. He says "I was so excited when I heard that I had got the part. I love being on stage and to have the chance to sing with a famous orchestra at the De La Warr Pavilion is brilliant. I hope everyone will come to see this special Christmas show."
