The Littlehampton Twinning Association was one of only two organisations to be praised by the town’s mayor Joyce Bowyer during the annual town meeting for Littlehampton on Thursday (April 24).

The twinning association’s former chairman David Twinn and the group’s long-standing former secretary Sue Dyball collected the first Group Merit Award from councillor Bowyer.

Speaking about the association’s efforts to promote the town overseas, Cllr Bowyer said: “The first group merit award goes to a group which has forged strong relations between our European neighbours.

“The committee works tirelessly to raise funds to arrange trips to these towns and also to entertain them when they visit Littlehampton.

“The host families are not to be forgotten, they have been entertaining some of the guests for many years. This well-deserved Group Merit Award goes to the Littlehampton Twinning Association.”

Mr Twinn thanked the mayor for the award and said he was honoured to receive it on behalf of the association.

Littlehampton has been twinned with Chennevieres Sur Marne, a suburb of Paris, since 1982 and with Durmersheim, near Karlsruhe, in southern Germany, since 1988.

Members of the 40-strong group visit their European neighbours during exchange trips each year.
