Top councillor boosts talented teenagers

THE chairman of East Sussex County Council, Cllr Chris Dowling, was in Bexhill on Wednesday last week, June 27, to see young people taking part in the town's DV8 educational training scheme to which he had contributed £500 from the chairman's fund.

Also present at the Victoria Hall in London Road were DV8 managing director Dan Wallman, centre manager Leo Sedgley and local county councillor Michael Ensor.

Mr Sedgley said: “The theme of the day was DV8 ‘A Creative Community’, highlighting the community of learners we have and the wider community network we work within, allowing us to do great work with young people. With this in mind we also invited some of DV8’s key external partners.”

Learners from Performance Upload and Music Production worked with singer Juliet Russell to perform two songs, one of which they had written themselves that morning.

Guests watched a video of the music production group recording their single, Music is the Bass, due for i-tunes release on Monday, July 9.

Cllr Dowling said: “I’m very pleased to come to DV8 and see all of the great work you are doing. The work they do, along with the other organisations with which they work, is very important for both the young people and our wider community and society”
