Top five issues brought to Citizens Advice Worthing revealed

The top five most common issues which people have sought help for at Citizens Advice Worthing are employment support allowance, housing benefit, personal independence payments, attendance allowance, and tax credits.

The advice team, based in Worthing Town Hall, is made up entirely of volunteers, who give up their spare time to provide help for thousands of people every year.

They were visited recently by Worthing West MP Sir Peter Bottomley, who went along to discuss the big issues facing people in the town.

Sir Peter spent time in the centre talking to staff and finding out how the team help people through the advice they give.

He said: “If I had a serious problem to deal with, I would refer to Citizens Advice. I am grateful for all that Citizens Advice does.”

Each year, Citizens Advice Worthing helps more than 4,000 clients with more than 8,000 problems on a range of topics, including welfare benefits, debt, housing and employment.

Nationally, two out of three people who seek advice from Citizens Advice say their problem was either partly or completely resolved and four in five say they experienced extra benefits from getting help, such as improved mental health.

Sir Peter met Citizens Advice Central and South Sussex chief executive Julie Martin and client services manager Lee Furlong.

He heard about the top issues affecting constituents in Worthing and learned of the work of the research and campaigns team, who carry out research on local policy issues.
