Government inspectors found the school to have made a wide-ranging list of achievements. The school's management was commended for its 'very good leadership,' while teachers were described as giving a 'high proportion' of good and very good teaching.

The school, which has only 115 pupils enrolled, was said to have a strong family and community atmosphere, which has created a 'most effective learning environment.'

Delighted headteacher Pat Wilkie said: 'I'm delighted to receive the Ofsted report and that the report confirmed the high quality of teaching. I am very proud of the attainment grades the pupils have achieved.

'This can be underpinned in Punnets School by the hard work and teamwork that exists between teachers, governors and pupils.'

However, the report listed three areas where there was room for improvement at the school. These were the 'pupils' levels of attainment, by the time they leave the school, in ICT'; 'the levels that higher attaining pupils reach in writing by the end of Year 2'; and 'the quality of marking of pupil's work so they have a better idea of what they need to improve'.
