Top tenor Martin Toal to open Albion’s Amex Stadium

MARTIN TOAL, more famously known as “England’s Winning Tenor”, will be helping to open the spectacular Amex Stadium, the new home of Brighton and Hove Albion FC at Falmer.

He will be performing on Saturday, July 30, prior to the official opening game, the friendly against Tottenham Hotspur.

Martin will be singing a number of football-related songs in the build up to kick-off plus an emotive rendition of “Abide With Me” alongside the Farnborough Concert Band of the Royal British Legion, reflecting on those loved and lost on the long road to Falmer.

Martin said: “To sing Abide With Me will be a very poignant moment as there will be many Brighton fans who have sadly passed away in the years since the Goldstone Ground closed [in 1997] so it will be important to remember them all.

“The opening game will be for the fans and I am proud to be a part of it.”

Martin is acclaimed as one of the UK’s leading operatic tenors, and is delighted to be back with his first love – stadium singing.

The Seagulls selected Martin as their opening voice not just for his amazing singing but as a good luck charm for the team and stadium. He is known as “England’s Winning Tenor” as the England football team has won without conceding a single goal every time he has sung the national anthem before the game – now six times.

He is particularly celebrated amongst sports fans having sung the national anthem at rugby and football stadia throughout the UK including Old Trafford, the Millennium Stadium, Twickenham, and Wembley for what was England’s first competitive international at the new stadium.

Martin added: “I am thrilled to be opening the new Brighton and Hove Albion stadium. It is a great honour to be associated with a club that’s on the way up and I hope that my voice inspires them to another great season so that it is not too long before this magnificent stadium is playing host to football’s Premier elite!”
