Top writer visits West Sussex

Novelist Santa Montefiore, who has sold more than two million books in Europe and is reputed to be one of the fastest-growing names in commercial fiction, will be addressing the West Sussex Writers' Club on Thursday June 8 from 7.30pm.

Living a year in Argentina after she finished school inspired her to write Meet Me Under the Ombu Tree. The Ombu Tree is the only tree indigenous to Argentina, so she used it as a symbol around which to create her story.

She said: "I wrote Meet Me Under the Ombu Tree because I have to write. I'm a born dreamer. I write for myself but also to entertain. It gives me great pleasure when someone likes what I've written."

She has most recently published Last Voyage of Valentina in November 2005, and the paperback The Gypsy Madonna was released in February this year.

The event is being held at The Pavilion, Field Place, Durrington. Members and non-members are welcome to turn up for the talk on the night. Entry fee is 3 for non-members, 2 for members.

The club meets on the second Thursday each month at Field Place, The Boulevard, Durrington. Visitors and prospective new members are always welcome. Anyone from published writers, to aspiring writers, or simply those with an interest in writing, can simply turn up on the night.
