Tories retain control of Horsham district by-elections

At the two by-elections held today (Thursday May 2 2013), the Conservatives have retained control of the two vacant seats on Horsham District Council of Chantry and Cowfold, Shermanbury & West Grinstead.

The results of the by-election for the seat on Horsham District Council of Chantry are as follows:

- Rosalyn Deedman – Liberal Democrats - 426 votes

- Diana Elizabeth Van Der Klugt - The Conservative Party Candidate - 1181 votes

- Peter James Alfred Westrip – UKIP – 1101 votes

The overall turnout was 35.15 per cent.

The results of the by-election for the seat on Horsham District Council of Cowfold, Shermanbury & West Grinstead are as follows:

- Roger Clarke – The Conservative Party Candidate – 873 votes

- Andrew Gregory Purches – Liberal Democrats – 243 votes

The overall turnout was 27.16 per cent.

There were four polling stations for the by-election in the Chantry ward - Amberley Church Hall, Storrington Guide Hall, Sullington Parish Hall and Washington Memorial Hall - which were open all day from 7am - 10pm.

There were three polling stations for the by-election in the Cowfold, Shermanbury & West Grinstead ward - Cowfold Sports Pavilion, Dial Post Village Hall and Partridge Green Village Hall - which were open all day from 7am - 10pm.

The count for the by-elections took place on Friday May 3 2013 at Bluecoat Sports Health and Fitness Club at Christ’s Hospital School, near Horsham.

The by-elections followed the resignation of councillor Chris Mason and councillor Andrew Dunlop in March 2013.
