Town hosts court service

POMP and ceremony came to Lewes on Tuesday when the traditional Crown Court service took place at St Anne's Church.

POMP and ceremony came to Lewes on Tuesday when the traditional Crown Court service took place at St Anne's Church.

The service, which takes place three times a year, before the opening of High Court sessions, was conducted by the Rector, the Rev Phillipp Hamilton-Manon.

Judges present were Dame Justice Anne Rafferty, Judge Simon Coltart, Judge Richard Brown and Judge Anthony Scott-Gall.

Among those also present were High Sheriff, Richard Carden; Lord Lieutenant, Phyllida Stewart-Clarke; Lewes Mayor, Cllr John Webber; Lewes District Council chairman, Cllr Peter Harper, and town clerk Christopher Walsh,

Prior to the service, robed and hatted members of Lewes Town Council processed up the High Street, accompanied by mace bearer Lee Simons.
