Town's namesake mine cruiser docks at Shoreham Port

HMS Shoreham docked in its namesake town last week '“ but onlookers almost did not see its arrival due to heavy fog.

The town and Adur District Council have long-standing affiliations with the Royal Navy’s HMS Shoreham, which is a Sandown Class mine countermeasure vessel (MCMV).

The mine cruiser was awarded the Freedom of Shoreham in February, 2011, by the council.

Four Royal Navy ships have previously been called ‘Shoreham’.

The original was built in Shoreham and launched in January, 1694.
