Trad letterbox back in town centre

Tradition has returned to Devonshire Square with the arrival of a postbox which proves the old ways are the best.

The new letterbox has brought a flavour of the past but is bang up to date with modern requirements according to post office delivery manager Paul Gander.

He said: "People in Bexhill are getting quite excited that we have this new letterbox in the square. "Previously we had the two boxes in the wall which weren't particularly satisfactory on health and safety grounds because the arrangement for clearing them from the inside was not good.

"So I have had this refurbished box fitted which is easier for postal workers to clear out and also enhances the square.

"It's going back to the traditional box because that is the best way to do it, and it seems to have caused quite a stir.

"People have been quite complimentary. It is an appropriate letter box and looks nice outside the Post Office."
