Traders'car park plea

A plea by traders to take over a Bognor Regis car park is to be considered by councillors.

The business owners along Aldwick Road want to see if they can administer the parking spaces to make the site more effective.

The county council-owned car park of some 40 spaces, on Victoria Road, provides the only off-street parking for visitors to the shops.

But its state was described as '˜somewhat dysfunctional' by Bognor Regis Chamber of Commerce chairman and president Nick Stuart Nicolson.

He said the car park's condition and the general lack of parking around the shops hampered the businesses in their quest for survival.

The request will be considered by the highways and transport sub-committee of the Joint Western Arun area committee later this summer.

Mr Stuart Nicolson also asked if the proposed, and long awaited, roundabout at the junction of Nyewood Lane and Aldwick Road would be of a sufficient size and design to create the necessary traffic calming and safety at the dangerous site.

This matter will also be considered by the sub-committee.
