Person hit by train in Chichester

THERE were severe train delays on the line between Havant and Barnham yesterday evening (Monday, September 10) after a man was hit by train in Chichester.

The information was first released by Southern Rail at 8.44pm when a Tweet was sent out saying: “We’re getting reports of a person having been hit by a train near Chichester.”

Network Rail staff, emergency services and British Transport Police were called to the scene.

It is believed the man was pronounced dead at the scene, close to the Whyke Road level crossing.

A replacement bus service was put on between Havant and Barnham with delays reaching around 45 minutes.

A normal service is expected to resume between Havant and Barnham today (Tuesday, September 11).
