Police name man found in water at Brighton Marina

Sussex Police said a man found in the water at Brighton Marina this weekend was a student from Nigeria.

The incident sparked a major search and rescue operation in the early hours of Saturday morning (February 23), involving Sussex Police, Shoreham Coastguard, East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service and South East Coast Ambulance Service.

But police confirmed on Saturday that a body was found.

A Sussex Police spokesperson said: "The body of a man found in the water at Brighton Marina on Saturday (February 23) has been identified as Oluwademilade Adekanmbi aged 20.

"He was from Nigeria and was studying in Brighton.

"The death is not being treated as suspicious and his next of kin have been notified."

A University of Sussex spokesperson said: “This is extremely sad news and our thoughts are of course with Oluwademilade’s family and friends at this time. We are offering support to our campus community and encourage students to contact our Student Life Centre if they need support.”
