According to the coastguard, a team was paged at 3.38pm after a windsurfer, who was last seen in difficultly, had gone missing.

Hayling and Bembridge RNLI Lifeboats were launched and Coastguard Helicopter Rescue 104 was also tasked, a Selsey Coastguard spokesperson said.

The spokesperson continued: “On arrival to Bracklesham car park our attention was drawn to a man in a wetsuit.

“We spoke to the man and it was him who got into difficulty after his mast had snapped.

“Thankfully he had made it to shore safely and was all ok, no medical assistance was needed and all assets were stood down.

“In an emergency out at sea or along the coast dial 999 and ask for the coastguard.”
