Train derails at Mountfield

A FREIGHT train has derailed at Mountfield this afternoon (Wednesday).

The train is believed to have come off the tracks just after 3pm.

All services between Robertsbridge and Hastings have been suspended and buses will replace trains until further notice.

Train operator Southeastern says it is likely that services will be disrupted for the most of the evening.

A spokesperson said: “No passenger trains were involved in the derailment and Network Rail is at the scene and working to clear the line as quickly as possible.

“An estimate for the resumption of normal services will be provided as soon as the problem has been fully assessed.

“Southeastern would like to apologise to any passengers affected by the disruption.”

Network Rail are currently on the scene.

A spokesperson for Network Rail said: “A freight train derailment in the Robertsbridge area is blocking the line in both directions.

“All trains between Robertsbridge and Hastings are suspended and a bus replacement service is in operation.

“We are working with Southeastern to minimise disruption and apologise for any inconvenience.

Passengers should check with National Rail Enquiries for the latest situation before travelling.”
