Tom Bryant, 21, was approached by the JayNii Foundation last May whilst working at a nursery in Angmering.

He arrived in Ghana on March 1 and launched a Crowdfunder to help build a classroom for children who are seen as unsafe due to the threat of gangs.

Tom said: “I was approached to come and work out here for six months in the drive to recruit more teachers, as JayNii aims to transition into a true free school.

“The facilities have a lot of potential, and if the Crowdfunder can reach enough people and they all give a pound then the fundraising is done and I can give these children a true school experience.”

The JayNii Foundation helps support children between the ages of three and 16 who have no access to an education due to threats in the surrounding ghettos of Jamestown.

Tom added: “Without a stream of volunteers each year, it is likely JayNii would be closed.

“Hopefully, a nice shiny new classroom with nice shiny new resources can convince other teachers to come out and join the foundation.”
