Trains getting longer

WEST Sussex commuters could benefit from longer trains and more seats as a part of a plan by Network Rail to combat overcrowding.

The company has designed a strategy to meet an expected increase in passenger numbers and plans to improve capacity and access to railway stations, better parking facilities and greater performance and reliability.

Fiona Taylor, Network Rail's route director for Sussex, said: "The Sussex route currently carries around 146 million passenger journeys a year. This is expected to continue to grow, so it is vital we have a clear strategy for the future."
